Any animal shelter or hospital will have things for you to do.

Check out this website... http://www.volunteermatch.org/ You type in the location you want to volunteer in and a keyword relating to what kind of volunteer work you want to do. The results give you all the information you need before you jump into it but I do have to say that Ive never heard of a volunteer org. that wouldnt let someone help because of their age so you should be good anywhere.
