Maintaining Permanent Residence You may lose your permanent residence status if you commit an act that makes you removable from the United States under the law in section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If you commit such an act, you may be brought before the immigration courts to determine your right to remain a Permanent Resident. You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you: - - - Move to another country intending to live there permanently. - - - Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year. - - - Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year. - - - Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period. - - - Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns. It would also subject you to being taxed under Canadian tax law, since most of your time would be spent on that side of the border (16 hours out of 24 equates to more than 182 days per year ... and no, it doesn't matter if you actually work 10 and travel 2 each way, you'll still be listed as single-shift employment, which means an 8 hour day). Since your primary residence would be in Canada, you would have voided the requirements for maintaining your status

About Would you rather stand in front of a buffalo stampede or work at Walmart on Black Friday

Would you rather stand in front of a buffalo stampede or work at Walmart on Black Friday?
I think I'd go with the buffalos. I think they're smarter than the Walmart crowd and might actually try to avoid me.

Answer 1 :
The buffalo don't give you an employee discount.
Answer 2 :
Hello, I think you would basically be facing the same situation it is about the same thing. Terrible to think people that have ways to use logic would act this way. Sincerely curious
Answer 3 :
Wal-Mart. At least when you get stampeded you would get some compensation plus you are getting paid to do it. But yes it is tragic that we live in such a materialistic society that we would actually hurt people to get the materialistic things we WANT.
Answer 4 :
Maybe. But these "super-IDIOTS" who brave bad weather to camp out for hours in front of these stores, are a breed apart!
Answer 5 :
The wal-mart in California was just fine on black friday. I guess it depends on who's doing the shopping. The New York wal-mart would have been better off with buffalo shopping.
Answer 6 :
The Wal mart in my town was half empty on Black Friday.
Answer 7 :
With the Buffalo you have no chance. Atleasr at Wal-Mart, your family gets partial benefits. On the real issue, we live in a selfish world, People have one thing on their minds: What's in it for me and me only.
Answer 8 :
neither
Answer 9 :
I am saddened to see people putting humans on the same level as buffalo. But, I guess when it all boils down, we are all still animals.
Answer 10 :
I think I'd rather run with the bulls in Spain than work at Walmart any day. I've been there, done that (worked at Target- just as bad), and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy
Answer 11 :
I take my chance on walgreen.
Answer 12 :
Depends on what neighborhood your in...

About Where's a good place to work in the Buffalo area

Where's a good place to work in the Buffalo area?
In the Buffalo/Tonawanda area, where's a place to work where I can get an application off line and hand it into a store. I want to avoid fast food places. Can I get a list of places and sites to go to to get applications to print off

Answer 1 :
Try looking for "gentlemens clubs." These places really pay well and work around your busy schedule while in college. I've avoided working in fast food places since I was 16, thanks to gentlemens clubs

About I Applied To Be A Border Patrol Agent. Is IT mandatory to work along the southwest border

I Applied To Be A Border Patrol Agent. Is IT mandatory to work along the southwest border?
I want to know where i will be stationed do we have a say in where we want to be stationed. I would like to work in the buffalo sector/bordering canada and NY. Is it possible to prefer this location or do i have to work in NM, AZ, TX, or anywhere else they tell me too.
Immigration - 4 Answers

Answer 1 :
You will go wherever they choose to send you. NM is a nice place, the weather there is perfect.
Answer 2 :
All rookie agents work the SW border. No exceptions. A great source of information for applicants is http://honorfirst.com/
Answer 3 :
The Border Patrol is like the military. You won't necessarily be sent to the front lines just because you joined. And the Border Patrol doesn't just work at the Canadian and Mexican borders, either. They're also in the airports and seaports that handle international travel. They should let you request working in a certain location, but bear in mind that doesn't mean that's where you'll be sent.
Answer 4 :
Remember these words: "Needs of the Service." If your application is accepted you will be called and offered a position at a specific duty station, presumably on the southwest border, or wherever else they need agents at the time. If your choice fits their needs, you are in luck. Otherwise, start studying Spanish

Can I live in Fort Erie, ON and work in Buffalo, NY?
What would the rules be in the case? Do I have to get a working visa? Is it hard to get? What about taxation rules? Thanks for the help!

Answer 1 :
You would have to get a work visa, get an Employment Authorization Document, and you would have to pay US taxes as an employee of the US. You can find that information on http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=48819c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=48819c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

About Is it possible to live in Buffalo and work in Hamilton, ON with daily commute

Is it possible to live in Buffalo and work in Hamilton, ON with daily commute?
Is is possible to live in Buffalo (close to US/Canada border) while work in Hamilton, Ontario with daily commute? How long drive from somewhere close to border bridge on US side to Hamilton?
Niagara Falls - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yes You can cross on the Peace Bridge, Rainbow bridge or Lewiston/Queenston Bridge But the wait CAN be over an hour. It's about 30 minutes to go from Buffalo to the border at Niagara Falls...so you'll be on the road for a while each day.
Answer 2 :
Yes, if you have the proper visa for working in Canada. The border will not be much of an issue, just get yourself a NEXUS card, $ 50 for five years. The process takes about three months. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/menu-eng.html There is an American site to apply as well. With this, you can drive through the designated Nexus lane at any of the crossings and cross the border in 15 sec flat

Answer 1 :
If you want to work for the Canadian side you would need to get a job with CBSA, Canadian Border Services Agency. They don't conduct much in the way of roving patrols though. Then again, neither does the US border service.
Answer 2 :
Another uninformed answer Randy B. The US border patrol has a very large office just outside of Buffalo. They do lots and lots of roving patrols on land and on water. The RCMP is the relevant agency mandated with patrolling the border, not the CBSA. The CBSA is responsible for specific ports of entry and in Canada immigration enforcement
